THURSDAY, OCTOBER 27: SPEED NETWORKING
Join agricultural communications professionals for a fun Speed Networking event at the 2011 American Royal in Kansas City. Join us on Thursday, Oct. 27 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the American Royal headquarters (second floor above the administrative offices) for an awesome night of networking and career-building experiences. Not only is this a great way to learn more about the diverse career opportunities available in the field of agricultural communications, but it’s also a unique opportunity for students to gain leads on internship and job openings for the coming year. Following the Speed Networking event, we will have pizza and drinks for the students and the professionals to give them a time to hang out and interact on a casual basis.
As well, ACT chapters are encouraged to make the most of their Kansas City trip by setting up tours of public relations agencies, breed associations, and magazines in the area (see our tour below – you are welcome to join in)! Or enjoy a day at the American Royal watching some of the highest quality livestock shows in the country.
This event is free - so you have nothing to lose! And, you can return home in time for football games on Saturday!
For those who are planning on attending you should read ACT alumni Crystal Young’s blog post about the event: Networking, and reaching your goal

The Hereford World magazine is the communication link between the American Hereford Association and its members. It provides comprehensive breed news and features. The magazine also serves as a beef industry reference and reports trends and developments affecting cattlemen. Hereford World is the primary marketplace and advertising medium for Hereford seedstock.

The Kansas City Star‘s Press Pavilion at 16th and McGee streets opened in 2006 and ranks as one of the finest printing facilities in the world. It also prints a Midwest edition of The Wall Street Journal. In print and online, The Star reaches more than 1 million local readers each week. And they reach thousands more through our magazines, books, suburban newspapers and events.
Blasdel Cleaver Schwalbe Communications is a privately held full-service marketing communications agency that specializes in brand building, educational campaigns, positioning and marketing of an organization or company’s products and services. For more information on BCS Communications click here.
*As noted below, the tour of The Kansas City Star’s Press Pavilion takes place at 1601 McGee in downtown Kansas City, Missouri. It’s in the big green glass building across I-70 from the Sprint Center.
Tour Details:
* Your tour begins in the lobby of the new Press Pavilion building, which is located at 1601 McGee, approximately one block south of Truman Road. The lobby is about in the middle of the two-block structure.
* Please arrive on time for your tour as it will begin promptly.
* We do not have reserved parking for tour-goers, but parking generally is available along the street on McGee and on the west side of the Press Pavilion, along Oak Street.
* Buses should travel north on McGee to unload at the entrance, so passengers don’t have to cross McGee to reach the lobby entrance.
* Each tour-goer must have a signed waiver and present it to the tour guide. Adult and child waivers are available for download at www.KCStarTours.com
* Groups of children must have adequate adult supervision and since the tour area includes areas with office space we request at least one adult for every 10 children. If children are under 8 years old, we suggest this be one adult for every two children.
* Remember…there is considerable walking involved in the tour, including climbing flights of stairs.
